The BOM released it’s projection of El Nino conditions still being at the alert setting in late August, with one of the 4 criteria still not being meet

While growers South and West would be relieved to see this setting hasn’t gotten worse, those North of Dubbo and parts of WA are already experiencing very dry conditions that are severely restricting yields at best or wiping out entire crops at worst.

The BOM is forecasting the chances of receiving above median rainfall for September to November as low in most areas which will mean growers across all cropping areas of Australia should expect a dry finish with no more than 2″ rain forecast between now and harvest.

While El Nino type conditions are bad news for Australia, normally growers in Argentina would expect good to excellent rains but this isn’t happening. The Buenos Aires Grain exchange are advising Argentina’s Northern and Central regions received little rain in July and August and without rain soon, winter crop yields will slide further.

Mother nature is certainly keeping us guessing!
